Expert Lectures on ELT - Prof. Atanu Bhattacharya

                              


On 25th, 26th and 27th January 2020 we had the expert lecture on ELT by Atanu Bhattacharya.
In that Three days Sir has deal with the History of ELT, Literature for Language Teaching : poem & Fiction, Testing & Evaluation : validity, Realizability & Washback.

On first day sir talked about History of English Language Teaching. because basic knowledge is important for any topic. So he also gave brief information of all the period that where it begin and what are the influences are come. Like he talk on The Classical period, than Renaissance, than 17th and 18th century, than come to the 19th and early 20th century. with all this information he later came upon the Chapter.

Than two method are mentioned by sir that are 1. Audio - lingual Method, and
2. Communicative Language Teaching method.

First method is to teach English language by giving task on language and not use the mother language or any other language. 
While second method is to emphasizes interaction from both the part teacher as well as student. this method is to engage student with the given task and they are discuss in group make points and deal with only English language.

than he came up on the language and Literature debat. There is always debat that should Literature can be used in Language classroom. In 1980s and 1990s  H.G. Widdowson and Stanley Fish argued that what we need to teach Language that all thing we found in Literature. He also say that Literature has not only useful to do develop Language skill but also useful to develop critical skill. He also talked about Cognitive and Meta-cognitive skill.
